Chapter 7: Belated Arrival of Cavalry

(Author Note: these will be used to designate the different language – “English”, “Sindarin”, “Quenya”, “Westron”, “Goa’uld” and “Maiar”)

The Goa’uld turned with fury towards the still captive members of SG1. “Kill them!

Uh oh,” Daniel muttered.

Several Jaffa lifted their staff weapons and aimed at the three captive humans. Before they could fire blazing light filled the area, driving the Jaffa back and overcoming them quickly.

The three, untouched by the light, gaped at the two ancient men in blue who stepped from the tree line.

Apologies for the delay in our arrival, we do not normally come this far north.

Or this far west.

Errr...thank you,” Sam managed and they climbed to their feet.

I am Alatar, and this is Pallando,” the first speaker introduced them.

Sam pointed to each of her companions in turn. “Teal’c, Daniel and I’m Sam.

While she was speaking Daniel glanced around with a frown, expecting Legolas to have also gotten to his feet to rejoin them. Alatar started speaking again, capturing his attention immediately.

Where is Prince Legolas?

P...Prince?” Daniel stuttered, surprised. The elf hadn’t displayed any of the mannerisms generally associated with royalty, at least on Earth anyway.

Yes. He is the Crown Prince of Mirkwood,” Pallando answered. “Where is he?

The Goa’uld singled him out. I...I expected him to join us after you took care of the Jaffa and Goa’uld,” Daniel stammered, then pointed in the general direction of where the elf had been when he last saw him. “Last I saw he was over there. He...he did something, right before the Goa’uld got so angry and ordered the Jaffa to kill us.

Did what exactly?” Alatar demanded while Pallando raced over to the pile of dead Jaffa near the rocks.

I don’t know. It made the Goa’uld angry though,” Daniel answered.

Alatar frowned then looked over at Pallando as the other wizard shoved a burly Jaffa to the side and crouched down next to something or someone. All of them clearly saw his shoulders slump before he carefully gathered it into his arms. He stood and made his way back to them, letting them see that it was the prince he held so carefully in his arms as he did so.

Is he?” Alatar asked with dread, slipping back into his native tongue out of habit. He missed Daniel frowning in puzzled recognition.

Yes. He chose death rather than allow himself to be implanted,” Pallando replied softly. “Aragorn will never forgive us.

Nor will Thranduil.

Whoa, whoa, whoa,” Daniel exclaimed, catching the attentions of the two wizards. “What did you just say??

The two blue wizards regarded him for a moment.

You can understand our language,” Alatar stated.

Yes, it’s similar to the language of the Ancients. But that’s not important right now, did you just say that he chose death rather than allow himself to be implanted?

Yes,” Pallando answered sadly.

Alatar sighed, “Let us leave this place of death.

The members of SG1 agreed silently and they all made their way back to the campsite rather dejectedly.

Reaching the campsite Pallando gently laid the elf down then pulled off his cloak and covered him.

Thranduil and Strider are going to kill us,” he stated quietly, sighing.

If Gandalf leaves enough of us to kill that is,” Alatar replied.
