She knew it was a dream -- a prophetic dream -- almost immediately. Everything was sharp, in-focus, and she had a feeling that she'd been in this place before.

Waterfalls burbled happily as leaves fluttered down from the canopy of trees. It seemed as though the buildings were actually built around the trees, which was kind of cool when she thought about it.

A man with pointy ears and heavily tweezed eyebrows was standing on a balcony, looking out over the land. He wore heavy, blue silk robes that rustled when he moved, and he sounded like an even more uptight version of Giles when he spoke.

"I am Elrond Halfelven, here to give you guidance--"

She interrupted. "My mom had some of your books. Said they were complete bull."

"What?" She didn't think it was possible, but he looked even more irritated.

"Never mind."

"You have a duty, Slayer..."

Buffy tuned it out. She'd heard the speech a thousand times if she'd heard it once. She didn't need to hear it in her dreams.

He didn't get her attention again until he pulled a sword from his robes and tossed it on the table.

It was beautiful.

She tuned back in as he said, "This sword was forged and reforged thousands of years ago and used by the King of Men to defeat the Dark Lord."

She rolled her eyes. "The Dark Lord? How original."

"He was the first--" Elrond broke off. "No, actually, Sauron was the second Dark Lord--"

"See? Total copycat. He won't be hard to kill."

Elrond ignored her and pressed steadily on, irritation plain in his voice. "And he has risen again, in your world. We have taken care of the Ring that holds his power, but he has new allies. Andúril," he gestured at the sword, "will slay him."

She grinned. "Okay. I take the sword, I kill Sourpuss, we party. I got it."

The dream started to fade before she could ask him where she would find the sword. She picked it up. It really was gorgeous, and felt like it was made for her.

The last thing she heard was an exasperated, "Humans. Gandalf, you better be right this time, or I'm tossing you out of Valinor."

She woke, and discovered the sword lying in bed beside her. She smiled, feeling the strength of it in her veins.

Jumping out of bed, she called to Willow and Xander, "Come on, sleepyheads. We've got a dark lord's ass to kick!"

It was going to be a good day.
